On the 12th of june 2011 Maeyken has unexpectedly died.
In her paintings Maeyken uses a horizontal line, which she calls the earth-line.
The theme in her work is this earth-line with everything living on and under it,
growing and being.
Everything that “is”, comes from and disappears in the ground, the air and the water.
Sometimes she gets fascinated when she does not see "things" sharp,
so that they become almost unrecognizable and objects get their own language.
People, animals, the objects and materials are her source of inspiration.
"I see the whole earth as a big magnet that I walk upon."
She does not use slide-projection or photography in her work.
